Well Dressed for the Art Show

September 15th, 2008

The music on the radio can just get so  . . . stale.  How many times can you listen to Neyo, Rihanna and The Dream before suicidal thoughts enter your stratosphere?  Lucky for us, independent artists work hard every day to create fresh new music that you- and your IPOD- can appreciate.  We met Peter Hadar after he sold us some fly ish at Pieces, a black-owned-boutique that used to have an outpost in Harlem.  After asking him what music had been playing in the store for the last 30 minutes, we bought his CD, Memories of the Heart, as well.  Now, we’re not ones to just buy music off the street (sorry people, but the ol’ “you listen to hip-hop?” pitch doesn’t work here), and maybe that’s why we were so shocked by how amazing this CD by a self-professed ‘cool weirdo’ was.  Two weeks later, several songs were on our iPod’s 25 most played list.  If we had to describe his music, we’d call it Carl Thomas meets—well, better.  Peter Hadar has opened for R&B mainstays such as Musiq Soulchild, written for artists such as Joe, and is, according to URB magazine,  “the next, next big thing in R&B”.  His new album, Well Dressed for the Art Show is, as expected, a well-balanced mix of R&B, rock, and electro soul.  Visit his site for more information, and to preview & purchase Well Dressed for the Art Show.
