The Young Designer’s Market
October 14th, 2008
We haven’t had this much fun in a gymnasium since middle-school dances with Jodeci blasting and teenaged hormones a-raging. And lest you get it confused, when you step into the Young Designer’s Market in New York City’s Nolita neighborhood, you are entering a bona fide old-school gym, complete with a splintery wooden stage and suspect bathrooms. But you’re also entering a New York treasure of young, talented and emerging designers, set up at back-to-back tables selling their wares to anyone lucky enough to walk through the doors. It’s a must-stop for fashion-forward residents and tourists alike. We’ll say this: bring cash, space in your bag, and a friend to stop you if you get carried away. You see, the Young Designer’s Market is chock full of gorgeous gold, silver, semi-precious and off-the-wall jewelry, political t-shirts, purses, shoes, jackets, winter accessories and more. You can leave with an XL Obama t-shirt nobody has every seen before, an extra-cute baby onesie that is borderline inappropriate, vintage leather boots, a one-of-a-kind dress or a trench coat that would put Andre 3000 to shame. The Young Designer’s Market is open from 11am – 7 pm Saturdays and Sundays.
