Olori Collection Spring/Summer 2009

August 26th, 2008

They say that when you fall in love, you just know.  It feels different.  It feels right.  You want the object of your desire around you at all times, and you can’t imagine your life without it.  Well, get ready to call your mama and tell her you’ve found the one.  The Olori collection is out, and we’re certain that fashionistas from every corner of the world will be as hot and bothered as we were upon first sight.  Olori means princess in Yoruba, in homage to Nigerian born designer Adeleke Sijuwade’s roots, and like royalty is exactly how you’ll feel in his pieces.  The dresses consist of whimsical, flirty mini and maxi styles made of stunning fabrics from the West African nations of Nigeria and Ghana.  Bubble skirts marry chic red, cream and pink patterns; strident geometric prints of green sit alongside purple circles, and stretches of black are littered with brilliant swatches of color.  Edgy, urban grays adorn girly ruffles and shape-showing cuts, creating the sorts of contradictions that fashion was made for.  With so many fabulous patterns, Olori somehow successfully maintains a cohesive identity, but it’s broad enough that it fits Rihanna’s style as well as it does Jada Pinkett’s.  Listen up, we’re serious about this one: this kind of love is what Tiffany blue boxes were made for.    Available at Pieces of Brooklyn, (718) 857 - 7211.  Also visit www.adelekesijuwade.com/ for more information.
