Maroons Restaurant, Harlem, NYC

July 14th, 2008

If you’re like us, when you want some down-home food, sometimes you can’t decide if you want Southern or West Indian cuisine. Maroons, though not the amazing food we’ve had, is a good combination of both. Whether you want jerk chicken and rice and peas, or have a taste for fried catfish and mac and cheese, you can get it here. The most stunning juxtapositions come in the form of Sunday Jazz brunch, where you can order chicken and waffles alongside ackee and salt fish, and wash it all down with a Jamaican cosmopolitan. The only issue we’ve had with Maroons is the fact that its in Chelsea—making it more of a destination spot than a spur-of-the-moment craving satisfier. For all your Harlemites, things are about to change: Maroons is slated to open in the coming months in the newly revitalized 145th street area in West Harlem. So go ahead: come home late from work and grab a bite to eat, roll out of bed on a Saturday and go get lunch with your girls, or take the fam out for a good-old New York experience if they’re visiting from out of town.
