I Got 5 On It

July 31st, 2008

You remember the ‘90s.  Everything was more fun, more innocent, and certainly a lot cheaper.  Yeah, you may wince at photos of yourself from back then (Adidas track suits, Cross Colors, Malcolm X tees, jean shorts and Karl Kani ring a bell?), and don’t worry, we all wonder what we were thinking with those lines cut in our hair and scrunchies holding our phony pony(tail)’s in place.  But oh, ‘90s music.  None of this tip drillin’, Soulja Boyin’, Making the Band nonsense.  Some good ole’ Toni Braxton, En Vogue, Digable Planets, Camp Lo, Tupac, Vintage Jay Z, Jodeci and Wu Tang.  Albums like The Chronic, The Low End Theory, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, Illmatic, Forever My Lady and What’s the 411? Do you ever wish you could go to a party and parlay to your favorite songs from the golden decade of good music and questionable fashion?  Well, thanks to DJs Mick Boogie, Terry Urban and Indiana Jones, you can, if you live in or are willing to travel to Brooklyn.   And for a nice retro price of $5.  Yup, for $5 you can shake what your mama gave you as Mick Boogie brings his world famous “I Got 5 On It” party to Williamsburg.  A party for less than a container of sticky black 90s gel?  Your baby hurh and FILAS would be so proud.  Thursday Aug 7th, Public Assembly, 70 North 6th Street, Brooklyn, NY.
