Graffiti Bars
November 12th, 2008
Graffiti is to hip-hop what abstract art is to high society. Back in the day, it served as the daring expression of our people, and now it is a nostalgic reminder, a throw-back to the early days, the B-Boy, the MC and the DJ. We can’t help but admire an artfully placed tag, an obnoxious claim to jurisdiction or a flat-out boastful show of skill as graf flashes by us on our subway rides. And we can’t stop eating Alison Nelson’s Chocolate Bar Graffiti Bars, which pay homage to the legends who precipitated graffiti’s move from low brow musings to high brow art galleries. Each of the ten bars features a wrapper created by a legendary artist, and a chocolate bar you’ll eat so fast it’ll make your head spin. For your added edumacation, the website features mini-bios on each featured artist, detailing their contribution to graffiti and hip hop cultures. But let’s be real: we wouldn’t be into these chocolate bars if they weren’t delicious. And delicious they are. There is CRASH, a dark chocolate bar infused with rum ganache, STAY HIGH 149, a delectable mix of white chocolate and ground chocolate cookies, LADY PINK, a milk chocolate and banana cream concoction, and 7 more. We recommend you get a few for yourself, and pick up the Graffiti Bar Set for the hip-hop fan who has everything. Visit Chocolate Bar for more information, and to buy.
